FROM pothead Tim in Channel 4 sitcom Space to Shaun in zombie Britflick Shaun of the Dead, Simon Pegg has always played it for laughs on British telly.
Now, after going to Hollywood to star in blockbuster franchises including Star Trek and Mission Impossible, things are getting serious for the actor.
Simon is playing his beginning major 'straight' part - as cyber security skilful Danny in new C4 thriller The Undeclared War, which starts next week.
He said: "It is a more dramatic function and something that I really relished - I trained to do that kind of matter.
"But I took a particular path and it's really lovely to be able to jump onto some other path.
"I relate more to Danny at present in my life, at 52, than I practice Shaun or whatever of those characters I've played - particularly Tim in Spaced, who was sort of a stoner who didn't know what to do with his life.
"Danny knows exactly what he wants to do with his life, he'southward extremely skillful at executing that, so it was really enjoyable to play a character who's and then far from what I'm known for playing."
The Undeclared War is set in GCHQ in the time to come when the U.k. has to defend itself confronting a serial of cyber attacks which could create nightmare scenarios.
Their last line of defence force is a cleft team led by Danny.
